UNDERSTANDING YOUR FAMILY OF ORIGIN
We receive pictures from our family of origin that deeply influence how we function as adults. We explore three basic types of families (healthy, confused, and dysfunctional) to help each person understand how they were shaped by their families, and also to better understand the differences between families. A particular variety of the confused family, the religiously confused family, is noteworthy because its focus on performance is a trait that often shows up in the other family types.
We will explore how growth in the Christian life is directly related to how well we respond to God, the first member of the Trinity, as a Father. Obstacles to growth often arise from one's family background. The solution is to participate in God's family so as to experience an emotionally rich sense of being loved and to have a correspondingly deep response of gratitude.
