A course on the theological backbone of discipleship.

The purpose of this course is to underscore the unique role in the Bible of the Book of Romans in describing the normal spiritual life. Through it, the student will discover the 7 Spiritual Skills that Paul presented and how to integrate them into our lives. To understand and live the truth of Romans is the goal.

The student will learn how the contents of Romans created the backbone for the material in the Foundation of the Spiritual Life & the Head to Heart courses (BC101 & BC103). This is to create confidence in the student to live their lives out of Trinitarian Theology. Romans teaches what it means to truly surrender to our good God.

Having a Ph.D. in the Old Testament and Hebrew, as well as his knowledge of the Greek language, Dr. Eckman brings a unique and rich perspective to the book of Romans.

Course Description:

The Theology of Romans course will give the student an easy-to-understand approach to Romans. Further, the student will have a clear picture of the relationship of Law and Grace in the context of the Greek language and Old Testament. But best of all, the student will learn how to experience the life of the Trinity.

The Spiritual Goals of Theology of Romans

  1. Setting the heart free from the overwhelming feeling that we are guilty, worthless, and spiritually orphaned.

  2. Setting the heart free to enjoy our relationship as real adult sons and daughters in God’s family (for eternity and not based on performance).

  3. Setting the heart free to experience genuine and lasting motivation to live the Christian life and to reach out compassionately to others.

The Academic Goals of the Theology of Romans

A. To be able to think through and understand the contents of Romans

B. To understand and appreciate Paul’s abandonment of the Old Testament Law

C. To learn about and experience the Trinity

D. To learn how Romans creates the foundation and process of the Head to Heart Discipleship Program
